About Us
2026 Spring
Rather than waiting for the completion of the museum in 2029, The Bank Art Foundation began its public work in April 2026 through First House, a living art house where artists, residents, and the community could gather around the process of creation. This early beginning reflected the foundation’s belief that a museum district should not start only with a building, but with relationships, dialogue, and shared cultural experience. In Fall 2029, the opening of Works will further strengthen this connection, creating a more accessible public platform for exhibitions, talks, community briefings, performances, and cultural programs that bring The Bank Museum District closer to the everyday life of Middletown.
2026
In 2026, after completing its registration process, The Bank Art Foundation officially began its work—not merely as an institution, but as a cultural platform dedicated to transforming memory, place, and community into a new public future.
2022
The vision for The Bank Art Foundation began in 2021, with the idea of transforming a former financial landmark in Middletown into a new cultural destination for art, technology, education, and community life. In 2022, that vision became concrete with the securing of the museum site at 135 North Street, Middletown, NY 10940, the former Chase Bank property that would become the foundation of The Bank Museum District.
2021
The story of The Bank Art Foundation began in 2021, when the vision for transforming a former financial landmark in Middletown into a new cultural destination first took shape. Rather than seeing the former bank simply as an empty commercial building, the project imagined it as a future site where art, culture, technology, education, and community life could come together. This early vision became the foundation for what would later grow into The Bank Museum District—a long-term cultural economy initiative designed to reimagine how regional cities can gather people, create identity, and build new forms of public value through culture.
